Capt. Jay Worley oversees the Uniform Patrol Division, which includes Patrol, K-9, Marine Response Unit, Traffic, Ride Along, and Special Services.
Officers assigned to Uniform Patrol are assigned to various beats throughout the city, and patrol their areas searching for criminal activities, helping people in trouble, serving warrants, and doing other police duties as needed.
The K-9 Unit has canines trained in patrol and narcotic work. Often, K-9 teams are called upon to track and apprehend suspects, to find drugs hidden in vehicles or buildings or to participate in public demonstrations showing their skills.
The Marine Response Unit has members trained in diving and boating so that they can use their skills as necessary - whether in rescuing someone in the water or doing underwater boat searches.
The Ride Along Program allows the public to ride with officers as they work regular duties in the field so that they can learn what it takes to become a Pensacola Police officer and possibly pursue a career in law enforcement.
The Traffic Unit investigates traffic crashes, handles funeral and dignitary escorts, runs radar, and handles other police duties as needed.
Crisis negotiators and SWAT members are called upon in various emergency situations. Among them may be someone barricaded inside a building and threatening suicide, dignitary protection or any other incident requiring specialized skills of these officers.
