Providing 24-hour coverage of major crime scenes is a major objective of the Crime Scene Unit. Personnel assigned to this unit process, evaluate, collect, and preserve evidence.

Crime Scene also is responsible for classifying, comparing, making identifications, testifying in fingerprint related matters, reconstructing crime scenes, and forensic photography.

The Crime Scene Unit maintains a clearance rate of over 200 cases per year from latent print identifications.
